Days Go By

It feels like it was Christmas and New Year’s Day not too long ago, but it’s July 1. The world is spinning very fast, and sometimes I feel like it’s all whizzing past me.

While I’m happy to be working, and doing what I love, I’m finding it difficult to maintain a regular writing habit. I’ve had a lot of false starts, and while I have good intentions, I have nonexistent output. In any case, I’m always absorbing fiction or some form of non-fiction.

In fiction, I’ve been neck deep in the back catalog of Star Wars Legends, but I’m taking a break to dive into more cyberpunk. While Neuromancer remains my favorite cyberpunk book, I’m looking to start Snow Crash (for the 14th time) as well as a few classics, and hopefully a few of the newer cyberpunk releases that I have on my TBR.

In nonfiction, I’ve gone back and forth between the essays of Harlan Ellison, and the history of Puerto Rico.

I’m listening to Ellison for inspiration on expression, opinion and I find his take on life in the 70s and 80s interesting. I’m especially interested in his observations on life in the 80s, since that was my childhood.

The interest in the history of Puerto Rico has been an emotional roller coaster. As much as I love history, I never looked up my own culture’s history, and I’m ashamed that I never did so. A lot of what I learned put a lot of things about the island into perspective. I still don’t have enough to INFORM my own opinion yet, but I’m continuing to absorb all of this data.

My roster of friends has dwindled. That’s on me.

Being nostalgic for the past has stunted my ability to think forward.
