I usually try very hard not to give up on a book or audiobook while its in-progress.
The ‘86 Fix by Keith Pearson just wasn’t strong enough to hold my interest. The book follows our protagonist: a middle-age man stuck in a bad marriage and a dead-end job, who wakes up in 1986 and so he can rewrite his life. The idea isn’t original, but I can always give that a pass if the story is good.
While I love time travel stories, this one dragged on for a very long time. I never got to the time travel. I understand building up the story so he could travel through time, but Person’s focus on how utterly awful the protagonist’s life was that it gets in the way of the story.
Deciding to give up on this audiobook was not an easy. It’s unlikely I’ll finish ‘86 Fix’, and that’s a shame because even though this story has time travel, this story also features another thing I love: the 1980s.
