One Fond Memory

A local news poll showed that many in this area are not fans of fireworks. In Pennsylvania, consumer-grade fireworks are legal to purchase. Firework stores and popup stands sell fireworks year-round to those who want them. There are local and state laws regarding the use of fireworks.

My girlfriend and I discussed the poll regarding the fireworks, saying that she’s not a fan because amateur fireworks are so commonplace locally. Before the regulations changed, going to see a fireworks display happened once a year, and you went with your family. It was an event, and it was once and done. I agree that the sentiment is lost.

One of my fondest childhood memories was going to see the Fourth of July fireworks in Coronado Bay, California. It was 1987, and my family was living in Imperial Beach at the time, and while most of the memories are fuzzy, I remember the bay, the boulders along the shoreline, and the fireworks over the water. Looking back at those days, I know times like that were few and far between, so I am glad that memory sparked up.
