From the surface of Vesta, the second largest asteroid in the Belt, sits Outpost Parallax.
Outpost Parallax is a weekly Saturday night musing of all things science fiction. Inspired by my favorite podcast Scifi Saturday Night, I aim to discuss anything related to science fiction. I will most likely discuss genre fiction on other days, but Outpost Parallax will be where I dedicate specifically to opinions and observations on science fiction books, movies, comics and games.
Why I’m doing this
I’m doing this because I’m tired of all the negativity surrounding science fiction fandom these days. I have no interest in reading or watching hot-takes on the latest film or TV series that the racist and sexist trolls constantly attack. I’m sick of the rage baiting over female leads in video games. I’m tired of potentially great works of TV or film being review-bombed or buzz-killed because the loudest trolls on the internet can’t deal with lead characters that are gay, or trans, or different skin tone.
I’ve always wanted to have a platform to do this sort of musing. I’ve done a lot of write-ups on science fiction already, but this will be different, as it will be consistent, positive and deeply personal.
Being positive and excited about science fiction doesn’t mean I won’t be critical whenever it’s necessary. Constructive criticism doesn’t mean tearing down the people involved.
I miss the Scifi Saturday Night podcast, so this is my little weekly tribute. I don’t know what will come of this effort, and it’s very possible that I’m just publishing into the void, but that’s the nature of life on the surface of Vesta.
