Late July is upon us, and I can feel the Earth shift, the jet stream change direction, and the sun hang still. It truly is a chaotic time of year.
I’m balancing several major creative projects at work, where as in previous years, it was one major project along side many small ones. I don’t feel stretched creatively, but it’s a very fine balancing act that is delicate and stress-inducing. Pressure is mounting, but one x-factor that has always been my secret weapon: I thrive under pressure.
At home, my girlfriend will be prepping for a trial, while also gearing up for baking competition. My 2-year old is testing the limits of running “fast” against the durability of my couches and walls. My daughter is still working three jobs while preparing for college.
What I’m trying to focus on now is how I can make sure I’m a supportive father to the kids, and a supportive partner to my girlfriend. I often tell people who seem to be going through a lot to make sure they take care of themselves, and I’m trying real hard to remember that for myself.
My current blogging challenge has me on my toes. I’m on a good streak and I don’t want to break this momentum. I still need creative fuel for what I have going on at work. This is a time of year that I traditionally put creative writing and art aside as I focus on graphic design. I’ve operated like this for a long time, and its worked in the past. I don’t think my blogging momentum will subside, but we’ll put that to the test. I may need to compromise in August.
To take care of myself, I’ll do my best to make sure I have a steady diet of science fiction in some form or another. Fitness is also (somewhere) in the plan. I’m seeing Spider-Man with my daughter, as well as helping her get ready for college. I’ll be taking care of things at home while my girlfriend needs time to prep for her trial. I can’t remember a time in recent memory when things have been this busy.
Just gotta keep reminding myself… pressure makes diamonds.
