I’m on a twenty-one day blogging streak, and I can’t believe I went this far.
There have been days where I don’t want to write, or I struggle to write about something while adding substance. In the future, I may change my goal to quantity over quality, but I wanted to at least build up the writing habit first.
I keep a list of subjects to write about whenever they come to me. What I’m learning is that sometimes I’ll be fired up to write about a subject, so I’ll put it on the list. Some time will pass and suddenly, when it’s time to write, I look back at the idea and hesitate. Then I end up not writing on that subject. My list of false-start subjects has gotten long.
Perhaps this is part of the pressure I’m putting on myself to keep the writing habit, but to also write with substance, emotion and authenticity. Looking back on the past three weeks, there certainly some weak blog posts. I can admit for some of these I was half-asleep, and I vowed to revise it. There are other posts that I feel good about, even if they are less than stellar prose or rhythm.
With the busiest time of the year looming, my goal is just to maintain the writing habit. I find that I’m learning a lot (like how to properly write out “twenty-one”), and I’m looking forward to writing more on the subjects that interest me (and maybe you too, dear reader.) Despite struggling sometimes, I’m actually looking forward to writing every day.
(I say “dear reader” as if I have actual readers. I know I’m writing into the void, and I’m quite satisfied with that.)
