In between my Cyberpunk audiobook adventures and essays, I’ve been listening to old episodes of the Sci Fi Saturday Night podcast. In my July 15 post about SFSN, I talked about how much the show meant to me, and how much it reminded me to focus on the positive side of scifi fandom.
I’ve been trying to take that positivity to heart lately. I’ve also tried putting it in my social media posts and blog writing. There’s a part of me that really wants to push out a bunch of snark, but I’ve been stopping myself. I’ve been able to be constructively critical without being a jerk. Sidenote: maybe I was a little harsh on Koosh over his AI movie.
Listening to the old Sci Fi Saturday Night podcasts also inspired me to create a new series on this blog, in which every Saturday I discuss science fiction. There will be other days where I discuss science fiction, but Saturdays are definitive SF discussion. I’ve always wanted a platform to do something along these lines, and I figured why not. Plus, even though I don’t express it every week, it’s an on-going dedication to Sci Fi Saturday Night. So, once the daily streak goal is over, my new goal will be to publish the weekly science fiction musing.
I really do miss this podcast, and I regret that I stopped listening. In fact, I learned that the team behind Sci Fi Saturday Night also put together a horror/mystery anthology titled My Peculiar Family which are stories written by authors who are also friends of the show. It was released in 2018, so I’m many years late to this, but I got a copy on audio. Horror is not my jam, but I was glad to buy this audiobook. Again, I’m sorry I missed this.
With over 530 episodes of the podcast, listening to this on a regular basis has become a real treat. Just the writer interviews alone are great to listen to. The (friendly) arguments over scifi books and movies, the convention stories, all the enthusiasm about upcoming projects, and everything in between really endears me to the show.
I don’t think there’s anything else like it online.
